About Us

The Cumberland Agricultural Society has been promoting agriculture and rural life for over 180 years with the main event of the year been the Cumberland Show held in June.

The Show combines tradition and agriculture with a fresh, modern focus to create a real celebration of farming, food and countryside.

There is a range of livestock classes including beef, dairy and sheep; heavy & light horses; poultry classes; vintage vehicle classes as well as wrestling and a fun dog show. The Countryside Area displays rural crafts and skills; a Home Industries Marquee; Craft Marquee; Country Living Arcade; Food Hall; a wide range of Trade Stands; and a variety of entertainment around the Showfield, which all make for a great family day out.

Other Activities

The Society is a member of the Association of Show and Agricultural Organisations and the North West Federation of Show Societies.

The Society is also involved in other activities to further the aim of promoting agriculture:

Long Service Award

The Long Service Award is presented annually to those involved in the agricultural industry whether a farm worker or those who work in a farming related business, who have given service for more than 25 years.

Rural Study Travel Scholarship

The Society supported by local businesses, H&H Group, Dodd & Co, Carrs Billington, Clydesdale Bank and Cumbria Young Farmers Clubs have developed a Rural Study Travel Scholarship to support the next generation of our local rural and farming community to travel in the UK, Europe or Worldwide to study and report on a chosen agricultural subject.

The Scholarship is open to those with an involvement in farming, the supply trade, and wider rural community in North Cumbria / South West Scotland and who are under 30 years of age.
